Busy Animation and Drama (Bandori Mygo ep7)
Bang Dream MyGo Ep7:
This episode was a blast, holy hell. It immediately drops us into the rehearsal before the live stage. It seems like they’re performing in an Afterglow x Poppin’ Party concert, and on the poster (and the first act alltogether) we see a reference to a band from Season 1 called ChiSpa. I guess that was a nice throwback.
Concerning the live Rana, the gremlin herself wants to start off testing the guitar and interrupts Taki while she’s drumming. Gets told to wait for her turn and just leaves lol. As a sign to come, Tomori is super quiet. This episode also has a lot of quiet moments, reflecting the characters being nervous before their first band. Taki also seems to be a huge fan of afterglow. Saya (from poppin) seems to have found Rana, and Taki kidnaps her from them. Then we get probably the busiest scene in all of MyGo with all characters animating and talking at the same time. Thats when I fell in love. They’re really putting their all into this episode.
Then they finally get to perform, and have a bunch of mistakes, mostly originating from Anon. They fail to start a few times, causing some people to leave. They missed bliss literally. The performance starts and they kinda suck, as expected for their first try. I think that aspect was done better than some other music anime, especially the older BanG Dream seasons. The stage also kind of falls apart in the beginning because Saki and the girl I forgot the name of entered. You can see her judge their stage from the back row. After the lovely performance we get some monologue from Tomori adressing the old band, how she doesnt want to feel that way again and Rana just casually provides background music, and then transitions into Spring Sunlight. That moment was also super well animated. The use of 2D faces was the way to go. (something this season does alot). Big girl Saki leaves the stage, while more people come to watch MyGo perform. Soyo slowly descends into madness as the song goes on. I guess she wanted to forget that chapter of her life. She also gets unreasonably angry, yet shown powerfully with right amount of 2d animation.
In a surprising move, while I thought Saki might be this seasons antagonist, kind of like Chu2 was in seasons 2 and 3, instead of starting off as this super good band/person that the main characters want to surpass, she fells envious (i think?) of them and decides to call up her former colleague in an effort to get her to forget everything. She might just form a new band out of revenge. We’re already halfway there but I am looking forward to seeing their showdown. Who knows if its gonna have a 2nd cour though. I’d definetly love to see more of the MyGo girls and not the original ones shoved in.
So far very very decent season and I can’t wait to watch more. To me it’s the Bocchi of this franchise. This episode alone I feel can carry the entire show. Also, I hope Soyo doesn’t leave the band in the usual cliche band anime garbage.
Thanks for reading.
